MSSC Maintenance Awareness Practice Test

The basic chain drive works by transferring power through a chain that runs over two sprockets. One sprocket is the driver, connected to the power source, and the other is the driven sprocket, which receives the motion. Together, the chain plus these two sprockets form the essential parts that actually convey torque in a chain drive.

Other options describe different systems or add parts that aren’t part of the simple chain-drive assembly. A belt and pulley belong to a belt drive, not a chain drive. A chain with a gear and shaft describes a different arrangement where gears mesh, not sprockets with a chain. A chain with a bearing introduces a support component, but bearings are not the defining components of the basic drive itself.
